Doug and David (his son) visited Bandelier National Monument, northwest of Sante Fe, New Mexico, exploring the many ruins and hiking a trail to the Rio Grande River. they also backpacked into the remote backcountry.

Frijoles Canyon area. They camped for 2 nights at the Bandelier Juniper Campground, above Frijoles Canyon. They explored the canyon and hiked amoung the Ancestral Puebloan ruins built into the volcanic tuff cliffs in the morning and, later in the day, hiked down-canyon on the Falls/Rio Grande Trail.;

Painted Cave: They backpacked up and out of Frijoles Canyon and did a 3-day, 2-night, 20+ mile loop on the Capulin and Frijoles Rim trails, to the spectacular Painted Cave and Boundary Peak.
