Travel Trip Photo: Fall color, Skyline Drive - Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

Ellen and Doug took another road trip east, to attend Ellen's 50th high school reunion in New Haven, CT, then to drive down to the Asheville, NC area and visit friends in nearby Biltmore Lake ... and of course, enjoy and photograph the fall scenery along the way. The original plan was to drive south on the Skyline Drive and then take the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Asheville, but the Parkway was socked in with rain and clouds, so they dropped out of the mountains at the Skyline Drive's southern terminus at Waynesboro, Virginia.

Overall, the weather was good, for the most part, and although the fall colors were pre-peak in most areas, the scenery was still full of color and spectacular.

Website photos, with captions and slideshows (with music):
Hamden, CT area. They spent 3 days visiting one of Ellen's life long friends (and a high school classmate) in Hamden, while attending the reunion and other festivities in nearby New Haven and surrounds;

Skyline Drive - Shenandoah National Park, VA. They then drove south and west, and picked up the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, at it's northern terminus in Front Royal, VA. They spent most of an entire day meandering, stopping at numerous scenic overlooks and attractions, photographing the fall color and mountain splendor, 101 miles south to the southern terminus just outside of Wayneboro, VA;

Asheville/Biltmore Lake, NC area. Foregoing the Blue Ridge Parkway, south of Shenandoah, they drove directly to Biltmore Lake, NC, just southwest of Asheville, and spent 5 days with good friends who had just completed building and moving into a beautiful home. While there they explored Asheville and the Biltmore Lake area, taking drives, walks and hikes. Other visits included a day spent walking the North Carolina Arberatum and a hike in Powhatan Recreation Area.
