Trip to Hawaii: The Big Island & Oahu

Kona to Volcano National Park
to the Hilo area;
and Oahu, including the Honolulu area

Ellen and 3 friends took a trip to Hawaii in February 2013. They flew into Kona (on the Big Island), rented a car and spent 15 days touring the Big Island and Oahu.

Kona to Volcano NP: Exploring the Kona area, including the Hulihe'e Palace, the Lekeleke Burial Grounds, Kahalu'u Beach, Green Sand Beach, Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge), Hipuna Beach, Kipuka Pauaulu (Bird Park) and Volcanoes National Park;

Hilo area: Exploring the Hilo area and the northern and eastern side of the Big Island, including the Hilo market, Volcano Winery, Rainbow and Wai'ale Falls, Mauna Kea, Lava Tree State Park, Hawaiian Tropical Botannical Garden and Onomea Bay and Akaka Falls;

Oahu - Segment I: Exploring Oahu, including the Laysan Albatross walk, Turtle Beach, Lanakai Beach and Makapu'u Lookout, Lighthouse Lookout and a local farm and biological research plot;

Honolulu area: Final days were spent in the greater Honolulu area, including a whale-watching boat tour, Valley of the Temples, Nu'nanu'u Pali State Lookout, Manoa Falls, Spitting Cave and Hanauma Bay, a hike up Diamonhead, Chinatown, Plantation Village and Waikiki.
