This is a composite of 2 Hiking and Backpacking trips Brian and Doug took to the Grand Canyon.

On the first, in October 1999, they left from the North Kaibab trailhead area, hiked along the rim for 4 miles on the Ken Patrick Trail, then down the Old Bright Angel Trail (more a route and trail at this point) for 7 miles to Roaring Springs, and 2 miles on the North Kaibab Trail to Cottonwood Campground, where they camped for the night. The following day they hiked 7 miles down the North Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch, where they enjoyed a couple(?) of beers before hiking .5 miles back up the North Kaibab Trail, and then 9 miles up and out on the Clear Creek Trail, before dropping down into the Clear Creek drainage. They camped there for 2 nights, exploring the area on their rest day, before returning, on the Clear Creek and North Kaibab Trails, to Phantom Ranch, where they camped 1 night at Bright Angel Campground. The following day they hiked back up the North Kaibab Trail and spent a final night at Cottonwood Campground, before hiking 7.5 miles out on the North Kaibab Trail to the North Rim. Total distance was 58+ miles and 7,700+ feet of elevation gain and loss.

On their second trip, in May 2006, they started and ended on the Grand Canyon's south rim. They hiked down South Kaibab Trail to the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch and spent the first night at Bright Angel Campground. The following day they hiked up and out the Clear Creek Trail and down into the Clear Creek drainage, where they camped 2 nights, allowing 2 days of exploration. Late the afternoon of the 3rd day, they hiked out of the Clear Creek drainage and dry-camped along the trail at the top of the drainage. The final morning they continued out the Clear Creek Trail and back down to Phantom Ranch, again camping at Bright Angel Campground. The following, and final, day they hiked back up the South Kaibab Trail to the South Rim. Total distance was 42+ miles and 6,600+ feet of elevation gain and loss.
