In early November 1996 Doug, Brian and Wes took a Hiking and Backpacking in the Grand
Canyon, beginning at Lipan Point on the south rim. The hike descended down the Tanner Trail to
Tanner Rapids, camping in the Tanner beach area two nights. On the off day, Doug and Brian
took a day hike up the Beamer trail. From Tanner beach, they hiked the Escalante route up and
around Cardenas and Escalante Buttes, down Escalante and Seventy-five Mile canyons, spending
a night on the beach across from Nevills rapids. On the final day they climbed up, over and down
the cliffs above Papago Canyon, hiked over to New Hance rapids and went out the New Hance
trail to to the south rim.
