From Bear Peak, descend 1.6 miles via the West Ridge Trail, dropping approximately 1,290 feet, into Bear Canyon. (This section of the trail has always impressed both of us as quite unique because, whereas we are within a mile, as the crow flies, of Boulder, there is a sense of being in true wilderness). At the bottom of Bear Canyon (elevation 7,170 feet), cross Bear Creek, turn left and head west. Shortly the trail bears back to the right (northwest). Begin climbing north up the southwest flank of Green until the trail intersects with the Green Mountain West Ridge Trail, after approximately .75 miles. Turn right (east) and climb the final .25 miles to the summit of Green Mountain (elevation 8,144 feet).
