Segment 4: Green Mountain to Flagstaff Mountain

Trail Description and Photos

From the summit of Green Mountain, descend back down the Green Mountain West Ridge Trail approxmiately .25 miles to the intersection with the Ranger Trail. Turn right (north) and descend another .75 miles (dropping almost 1,400 feet from the summit in the process) the Green Mountain Lodge (and ranger station)(elevation 6,750 feet). Just north of the lodge, pick up the dirt road and take this up to Flagstaff Road and the parking lot for Flagstaff Mountain. At the parking lot, pick up the Ute Trail and take it north. Note: We have never located the true summit of Flagstaff, so we have picked a high point that requires a little rock scramble.

To find OUR summit: On the Ute Trail you will come to a sign the tells about mule deer. Go cross-country to the North and look for the boulder in the picture. That's "our" Flagstaff Summit. (From the book, Boulder Hiking Trails: "The unmarked summit of the mountain (6,872 feet) is just south of the picnic area and about sixty additional feet in elevation gain." Is this the same point? Do we really care??
