Prologue | ||

Day 1 - September 30, 2002
We are off on our great fall adventure! We drive on 285 through South Park and the San Luis Valley and are treated to spectacular vistas. Swaths of evergreens on mountainsides streaked with aspens in various shades of orange and gold, capped off by peaks dusted with white. We spend our first night along the banks of the Conejos River just west of Antonita, Colorado. Day 2 - October 1, 2002 We awake to sub-freezing temperatures and frost on the windows of the trailer. Thank goodness for the furnace which quickly warms up our home. When the sun rises, the air warms and we are able to explore a bit. We walk down to the river and meander along the banks following animal trails (probably deer0. We watch two dippers chase each other and alight on rocks and do their characteristic bobbing and dipping which gives these birds their name, though we don’t see them go into and under the water. |
